Cycle Touring Tips 101
During our 'safety brief and introduction to the bike' talk, we try to give little tips to help prepare our clients for the up coming tour. Whether it be intersection safety or nutrition there is always a new, better way to make cycle touring even more enjoyable.
But the best we were told recently was an oldie but a goodie:
Looking Behind You on a Bike: when you have to look behind you, to keep you veering in the right direction, turn your head, shift your weight a bit to the opposite direction on the saddle and pedal down. Thanks Michael from South korea for this tip!
Little River Rail Trail
The Christchurch - Little River Rail Trail is a great family day out, offering flat, easy riding on a track that is away from vehicles.
In 2006 the disused rail line was converted to the Little River Rail Trail as a dedicated biking and walking trail. The 21km trail starts in Motukarara, passes Lake Ellesmere and is one of the best bird watching lakes in the country. The trail skirts the massive flanks of ancient volcanoes and finishes in Little River.
Once there relax at the famous Little River Cafe and Gallery and enjoy good food and coffee.
We offer two options for those of you wanting to experience the Little River Rail Trail - a day trip either guided or unguided. Email us at Natural High for more details or to book your place.
Natural High Road Team
While here at Natural High cycle touring and mountain biking is our passion, we also like to give the roadies amongst you a run for your money. And this year Natural High is sponsoring a Road Racing team in the New Zealand Benchmark Tour.
Our star of the team many of you will have met is none other than our very own bike mechanic Rod who is riding "A" grade this year.
One race has already taken place out at Cust, North Canterbury and the next race is on the 22nd March. While we didn't have any place in the first race, we did manage to get 5 riders home in the main bunch. Well done lads and good luck for the next race!
